Kvanir

History

Kvanir Addhineen Vazhdu Avd’Urziana, or "Kvanir" for short, is a Maha'i scimitar crafted many centuries ago. Little is known of its origins, but it was the personal scimitar of Tawru, a Maha'i member of the Knights of the Silver Dragons. After becoming a blackguard and freeing the Maha'i slaves in Laishtek, Tawru was slain by Likran Treewind, a fellow knight and Tawru's former chapter head. Treewind then used the scimitar as his personal weapon until his death. It was deposited in Treewind's tomb, under the Tawruian Monastery near Twilight.

Engraved on the side of the sword is its name, which seems to follow the Maha'i convention of adding a name upon some major event in the history of the weapon. The individual parts can be broken down and translated as follows:

Kvanir-formal name
Addhineen-dragon's bite
Vazhdu-silver
Avd’Urziana-slave of Urziana

Campaign Events

In Codex V-Chapter 4 the party discovered Treewind's tomb, and fought off a wraith that had been trapped inside. The sword was missing. In Codex V-Chapter 5 the party acquired it by killing Kagu the Cunning, a local goblin warlord. Kagu had been driven mad by the evil sword and had attacked Twilight and surrounding towns over the previous few months. It was then discovered that Kvanir was not just any sword, but an intelligent item.

Stats (5th edition)

Languages: Maha'i (though the dialect is slightly archaic)
Alignment: Chaotic Evil
Since the scimitar is currently chaotic evil, any attempt to use the sword by a neutral or good person will require success at a DC 10 Will check. Failure means the sword takes control of the person for twenty-four hours. Even success means that all uses of the sword are rolled with disadvantage for a good or neutral person.

You have a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon.

You can use a bonus action to speak this magic sword's command word, causing the scimitar to be sheathed in shadow. While the sword is sheathed in shadow, it deals an extra 2d6 necrotic damage to any target it hits. This lasts until you use a bonus action to speak the command word again or until you drop or sheathe the sword.

Can cast Can cast Zone of Truth 2x per day. The sword regains one casting of this spell each sunset.
